maybe they’re just going to reveal why he’s called The Doctor, and not, y’know, his actual name
I hate when people fight over whether David or Matt play a better Doctor (they seemingly forget about Chris. They must’ve skipped him.) But, personally, I’m a huge fan of the New!Who trifecta.
That being said, it’s almost impossible for me to choose any of them as my favorite Doctor, because they’re really just playing the same man at three very different points in the Doctor’s life. Choosing one is like picking one favorite part of your life over another, when instead you should just savor the fact that you *are* alive, and that you have this wonderful opportunity to make the most of a miracle.

In my culture, we believe that when you die your spirit has to climb a mountain, carrying the souls of everyone you wronged in your lifetime. Imagine the weight I will have to lift. The monsters I created, the people they killed…Can you see now why I fear death? You want to hand me over, there’s no shame in that. But you won’t we all carry our prisons with us. Mine is my past. Yours is your morality.
What if when the Doctor dies, as he is regenerating, he has to watch his former incarnation climb up that mountain, he has to watch himself struggle as each regeneration his burden grows, until he comes to the point that he is afraid to die, because he is not sure he can bare the load.
When Nine regenerated into Ten, he saw how great and worrisome his load was and feared death.
When Ten was shot and started the regeneration cycle, he started to see how great his load had become, and he couldn’t bare to look at the souls that he had to carry. So he thought quickly and he poured his regeneration energy into his severed hand, escaping the mountain for a little while longer.
After the battle was won and the companions had left in their various tearful ways, Ten traveled around by himself hoping to avoid the mountain at all costs, but all he did was gather more souls.
When Wilf was caught in the chamber about to be filled with the poisonous radiation, Ten started to despair, because he had again seen all of the Time Lords and knew that their souls would weigh heaver on him than last time. Ten screamed that he could be so much more and all he wanted was the time to become that, but Wilf, poor, stupid, wonderful Wilf, was trapped and Ten knew he must save him.
As Ten started to glow he said softly and kindly, “I don’t want to go.” He stood at the base of the mountain, his arms full of all of those he had wronged.
“Today I honor the victims first. The Master’s, the Daleks’, who all died because of MY MERCY.” Eleven had seen himself in Jex, and he was remembering the pain that Ten had been in when he had finally climbed the mountain. He was now realizing that his load would be almost unbearable.
You think it’s like this, but it’s really like this.
